So what’s in the case?
Firstly, a pair of outstanding sparkling wines from Jenkyn Place, their Blanc de Noirs and Rosé. Jenkyn Place Blanc de Noirs has a fresh nose of cashew nuts with notes of lime and ginger. Ripe pear, golden apple, baked bread and toast. Its great acid structure gives freshness, lift and length. There is plenty of complexity to follow as the wine already has stunning length, poise and detail on the finish – fascinating and delicious! Coming into its own now, this wine has a fantastic future. Jenkyn Place Blanc de Noirs winemaker: Dermot Sugrue
Jenkyn Place Rosé is a dry, elegant sparkling rosé that will continue to evolve gracefully for many years to come. Savoury notes of fresh bread, citrus and brioche on the nose and bright, delicate flavours of rosehip, redcurrant and cranberry on the palate. This wine has a deliciously long, precise and linear finish. Jenkyn Place Rosé winemaker: Dermot Sugrue
Secondly, this case includes a sparkling rosé from Norfolk, the Chet Valley Horatio. The Chet & Waveney Horatio Sparkling 2016 has clear, salmon pink in colour with a good mousse. Fruity aromatics with complex flavours and buttery, biscuity notes. This wine is made from a blend of 80% Phoenix, 15% Seyval Blanc and 5% Regent grapes. Great to drink on its own or with canapés.
Thirdly, a pair of excellent value English Sparkling Wines: the Carr Taylor Brut and Demi Sec. The Carr Taylor Brut is pale golden with subtle aromas of fresh apple and elderflower, this Brut Sparkling Wine is racy and fresh. Bottle maturation provides hints of biscuit on the nose, and butter on the palate. As with all Carr Taylor’s Sparkling Wines, it is made using the same traditional method as Champagne, with a secondary fermentation in the bottle. However, using different grape varieties to Champagne results in slightly less austere, more aromatic, fruity flavours which have proved to be consistently popular over the years.
The Carr Taylor Demi Sec is a gentle golden colour with a soft peachy nose with hints of apple and vanilla. The fresh fruit flavours have a subtle complexity and a luscious, sweet finish. A rich velvety mouth feel and a creamy mousse crown this superior sparkling wine. This Demi Sec is perfect for afternoon teas.
Next, a gold award winner at the IEWA, Tickerage Blanc de Blancs. Medium gold with an intense and prolonged fine bead and mousse. Clean nose with hints of honey and caramelised apple. The extended lees ageing means the honey theme continues on the palate, balanced nicely with crisp acidity and hints of melon, cucumber, thyme and orange blossom. A long, vinous finish. 9 years on the lees has given this wine a wonderful complexity, a lovely example of an English, 100% Chardonnay, sparkler.
