Description

Giffords Hall Classic Cuvée 2018 has the robust acidity and minerality you would expect from a traditional English Sparkling Wine. Along with this, it has depth and distinctive fruit flavours with a delicate floral twist and a biscuit-dry finish.

Pair with traditional fish and chips, alongside other smoked, oily fish.

Made using the traditional Champagne method and grapes. Hand-selected Pinot Noir, Burgundy clone, and Pinot Blanc make up this vintage, with the base wines barrel fermented in French Limousin oak.

Giffords Hall is a family owned vineyard planted on the site of an ancient glacial riverbed near Long Melford in Suffolk. The sandy/clay soil produces quality grapes, high in natural sugars and acids.  It’s this special terroir which gives Giffords Hall wines their dry flinty quality and delicate floral accents. Originally planted around 25 years ago, the vines at Giffords Hall are now in their prime. The vineyard produces a range of wines that have won many awards over multiple years.

This vintage of Giffords Hall Classic Cuvée 2018 recently won Wine GB East Wine of the Year 2022.

Giffords Hall pay particular attention to individual areas on their terroir, and the winemaker uses only the best batches to individually craft their range of exceptional wines.

About the vineyard

Giffords Hall

Giffords Hall is a family owned vineyard planted on the site of an ancient glacial riverbed near Long Melford in Suffolk.

The sandy/clay soil produces quality grapes, high in natural sugars and acids, that lend themselves particularly well to both sparkling and dry, aromatic still wines.

The vineyard was planted around 25 years ago and the vines are now in their prime.

Madeleine Angevine, Bacchus, Reichensteiner, Rondo, Pinot Noir, (both Burgundian and Precoce), and of course the Pinot Blanc, all do well on this site.

The family concentrated on producing top quality fruit and became contract growers in order to learn as much as they could.

The ultimate aim, though, was to produce very high quality boutique wines themselves and in 2009, they put their first label onto a bottle.

The Howards bought Giffords at just the time when real investment and marketing expertise were starting to enter the English wine industry attracting corresponding media attention.

Giffords Hall wines have received many awards and trophies over the years including the Waitrose trophy for most outstanding rose and National English Wine Trophy for our Bacchus.
