Litmus Wines Philosophy:
English wines are often deliciously scented, floral and aromatic. We find they are often described with adjectives such as hedgerow, gooseberries or elderflower. However, utilising his vast experience in cool climate and English winemaking, Litmus Wines founder John Worontschak’s aim is to forgo these easily attained characters. John aims for more robust, complex food wines with long ageing potential. This is combined with a balanced acidity that’s found in quality Northern European grape growing regions.
Seeking out the best parcels of fruit from the most distinguished sites in the UK , John crafts world class wines that are at the forefront of English winemaking.
The star wheel on the label is a representation of a coccolith. A coccolith is a sea creature with a calcium shell that has been laid down over millennia to create the chalky soil found on the cliffs of Dover and throughout swathes of the South East. Calcium is the 20th element of the peroiodic table, and this reflects the chalk rich soils that the grapes for Element 20 are grown upon.
John T. (verified owner) –
This is one of the best English Red Pinot Noir’s that I tried so far. Superb on the palate, red fruits/cherries/spice and a hint of minerality with a lovely silky cream finish. Reminiscent of a young Cote de Nuits 1er cru Burgundy.
