After years in hospitality, I took the leap into wine, earning my WSET Level 2 and 3 qualifications. My first wine role was at a vineyard in Essex, where my fascination with England’s vineyards truly began. Over time, I’ve watched people go from saying “Really, they grow wine in England?” to “I much prefer English sparkling to Champagne!” and that fills me with pride. Pride for the dedication, innovation, and passion of the people behind every bottle.

The wines we remember most are tied to moments – the occasion, the sunshine, the company. My first unforgettable English wine was Silex by Flint Vineyards. At 19, in my very first Airbnb, I nervously purchased this sleek bottle in Bungay, thinking, “Surely this can’t be English.” That first sip — apricots, smoke, honey — was a revelation. That moment sparked a love affair with English wine that will last a lifetime.

Today, I am an experienced wine educator and events host. I’ve had the privilege of working across the wine industry, from the well-known Majestic Wine, to an independent merchant Highbury Vintners in North London, and the historic Berry Bros. & Rudd, learning the joys of sharing wine, the quirks of shipping it, and most importantly, how to help others understand it. Wine should not feel intimidating. A lack of understanding doesn’t take away from ones drinking pleasure – knowledge simply adds confidence to your choices and respect for the craft behind the label.
